French Opaline Open Urn sits suspended in its own bronze, three-footed mount. The base of the urn has a large, faceted knop. We suggest this might originally have been a goblet which was probably damaged at some point, and we have here a clever rescue; the remaining goblet stem was faceted on the grinding wheel, and the bronze mount was custom made for this piece. Rare, diminutive Cup, signed in gilt, "Daum Nancy" on the base, along with the Cross of Lorraine. The piece is from Daum's early years when their designs were decorated primarily in gilt, before they began creating cameo glass.
