ROMAN GLASS JAR - BROKEN - FREE SHIPPING
A Roman transparent green glass jar that is broken on one side. The jar was excavated in East Jerusalem and measures 3.9 cm in height with a circumference of 13.2 cm. The vessel is dated to the 1st century AD, the Roman Period and also the time of Christ. The item has a squat body that grows to a slightly restricted neck and a rolled, flaring rim. There is a slight encrustation on the exterior and interior and the bottom is indented. A large chip is missing from the body but the jar can be displayed in such a manner that the hole is not seen. The jar is in good condition and shipping is free.

The people of the Roman Empire used more glass articles than any other ancient civilization. Glass vessels were commonplace by the first century AD. Glass for ordinary use had a blue, amber or green tinge although clear glass was not unknown. This jar was in use in the Holy City at the same time that King Herod and Jesus Christ were there.
