Signed Pate de Verre Art Glass Plaque

A lovely, unusual pate de verre plaque in the shape of a heart, with "lacy" edging, and young boy with basket. There is a hand-engraved signature on the side, a date that appears to be 1918 or 1978, although the style of the piece indicates the earlier date; and we do not know the mark with interlocking letters. 5" x 4.5" x .75" (12.70 x 11.43 x 1.90 cm) deep. Means for hanging on wall has been drilled into the back. Excellent condition. $14 US Shipping. [see notes below]

Pate-de-verre is an ancient technique in which glass is made by blending and refining powdered glass of different colors into molds. The process was revived by French glassmakers, especially Galle, around the end of the nineteenth century. [courtesy Kovel's]
