Rare, diminutive Cup, signed in gilt, "Daum Nancy" on the base, along with the Cross of Lorraine. The piece is from Daum's early years when their designs were decorated primarily in gilt, before they began creating cameo glass. Shadow-ribbed, waisted crystal bowl, with tightly ribbed attached handle, thickly enameled, gilt-outlined flowers surround the bowl, feather gilding at the rim and base, and gilt at the top and base of the handle. The finely polished base acts as a lens, and has the unique quality of providing magnification when viewing objects through either the inside, or the outside upturned base. Measures a petite 2.25" tall (5.71cm), 1.75" diameter at the rim (4.44cm) , and 1.50" diameter at the base (3.81cm). Condition is excellent with minor scattered wear to the gilt. c. 1878-1895. $16 US Shipping. |
